"Ghosts in the Nursery" by Selma Fraiberg et al. , "visitors from the unremembered past of the parents" that our children inevitably evoke in us , "uninvited guests" that surge into our lives wreaking havoc and confusion because they've been so deeply buried in shame and fear they we do not know them, do not recognize them, never confronted them. I was shocked by the crowd of ghosts lurking in me and it has taken me some time to recognize them, face them, honor them and allow them to recede so that I can communicate directly with my children without filtering through the ghosts....the "primitive agonies" (Winnicott). These were very powerful lessons for me as Alice Miller knew all too well. Thank you for reminding us to protect our children - not the ghosts and conflicts of the past.

I find myself learning new perspective of my adolescent and teen years. Though much relates to my relationship with my children, much does not. This is especially true now that all my children are adults.
